Book Review: Live Your Road Trip Dream

If you have ever wanted, or needed, to take a sabbatical or extended vacation, this book is for you.

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than those you did." - Mark Twain

*Live Your Road Trip Dream: Travel for a Year for the Cost of Staying Home*

"When we first told people we were thinking about doing this, no one believed us, especially the kids. "Parents don't just run away for a year?" they exclaimed." - Page 25

Husband and wife team, Phil & Carol White turned their dream into a
reality, moving into a camper van and living on the road for a year.
Lucky for us they decided to share this experience in their book, Live
Your Road Trip Dream: Travel for a Year for the Cost of Staying Home.

For one year, these two adventurous souls were self proclaimed "kids again", traveling the roads of America, state after state, within their home on wheels.

This award-winning, how-to book and travelogue is now released in its
second edition after a very successful three printings of the first
edition. Articles about the Whites and their experiences have appeared
in many publications including The San Francisco Chronicle, USA
Today.com, ABCNews.com and The Boston Globe. Fun and inspiring, you just
might decide to jump on board the vagabond wagon, living as simple,
carefree and nomadic as the White's.

*We Did It & You Can Too*

Everyone has dreams and the stronger the dream, the deeper the desire,
the more intense the hunger, the more motivation or fuel there will be
to overcome any remaining fears that are in the way, blocking
fulfillment. Dreams give us purpose, a direction in which to move. So
ask yourself, what is your dream, where is it you wish to go, or be or
do? If it is the freedom of the open road, like many dreamy-eyed,
road-hungry Americans, Carol and Phil White want to get you off on the
right foot and keep you there. Carol's contagious enthusiasm might even
turn you into a daydreaming road warrior, if you are not one all ready.
Her optimism and light reminds us all that if you want something,
"hey-we live in America", find a way to manifest it. With detailed
description of start-to-finish problem solving, complete with solutions,
Live Your Road Trip Dream, is encouraging and motivating, giving you
tools and wisdom direct from seasoned travelers themselves.

*The Plan*

Even if you are following Spirit's Call, and your intuition is pulling
on your sleeve, you still need a plan. This is serious stuff, up and
leaving, a big move on the chess board. According to the White's you
will come back a different person, more enriched with wisdom and an
earful of stories and knowledge. Regardless of where you are in your
life right now you are going to need a plan if you are serious about
heading out on an adventure of such magnitude. Included is step-by-step
real-life information on serious decision making and preparation for an
extended trip.

Your vision may not be a road trip, but perhaps a sailboat trip around
the world or a bike trip through America. Whatever your dream is, the
planning process is the same – only the details will vary. If you do
enough planning things will go smoothly, as though on autopilot. The
vision of your adventure will beg many questions of you. Many questions
that /Live Your Road Trip Dream /will help answer. The book addresses
many subjects including how to build a travel budget, insurance,
homeschooling, planning a route, staying in touch while on the go,
breaking the news of a lengthy voyage to family and friends, pets,
making money, electronic devices on the road, discounts, clubs,
emergencies and so much more important and useful information.

*24/7 & Still In Love*

While the book deals with the sobering and responsible, drier elements
of the trip, such as finances, emergencies and planning, it is also
filled with some heart-touching, practical relationship guidance. Carol
has highlighted some important issues, specifically about being with
your traveling companion 24/7 and still getting along. She advises to
pack a lot of humor and patience, and to use it in large doses. As Carol
points out in this book, being together all the time has its challenges,
even for the most tight, close and coziest couples. Support one another
and when you have done that, do it some more. Without being supportive
and sensitive to each other's moods, oddities and needs, the road could
become miserable. Support one another in the good times and in the bad.
There is nothing that two people cannot get through, as long as they are
committed and loving toward one another. This experience made Phil and
Carol so much closer than they were when they left, describing it as a
life-changing spark in the relationship and an exhilarating experience
that they both cherish.

*Great Advice ... *

This book is filled to the brim with great advice, such as ...

  * Build a good plan, communicate it early and lovingly, keep a
problem-solving can-do attitude, and never lose sight of your goal.
  * Make exercise a part of your routine everyday.
  * Even one drawer of shelf that is reserved for each person or even a
time a day designated to solitude, makes togetherness more inviting.
  * Set boundaries and routines ahead of time to help ease in the
    transition of always being together.
  * Do not over plan, rather leave a lot of room for spontaneity.
  * Visit the AAA offices that are located in every state. They are not
only a great resource, but super friendly.
  * If you are driving an RV of any type and are planning to stay
downtown, always ask about parking. Remember that you need to have
    level parking.

  1. Thank you for such a nice review. I hope it encourages people to Live Their Dream - their dream, not our dream. We just help guide the way.
