Blessed Fall Everyone!  I must share this great fortune cookie prediction I opened up this morning.  Today my fortune read, "Shoot for the moon! If you miss you will still be amongst the stars."  When you follow your heart, finding the big dreams within you, your will find yourself in joyful, soulful places.   Your soul's purpose, your destiny are alive withing the center of your being.  Love is the secret ingredient ... How will you love yourself today?  How will you have gratitude for all the blessings in life?

At this time of equal day and equal night, please take a moment today to honor the changing seasons and give thanks for the harvest that will sustain us through the dark winter months.  Show thanks for the many gifts of your life, within yourself and all that you love.  What you love will love you back, you know!  Find a way to give back to the earth and help someone who is in need this Fall.  If you do not know anyone in need, simply have the intention and life will do the rest ... bringing hearts together.

As a children's story author myself, I have a natural attraction for awakening the child within.  It is so fun to fall into the fantasy lands of the imagination, filled with allegory and collective depths of an eternity within.

The Land of the Ten Kings and Roses is a magical place, full of lively excitement and an array of characters that creates a rich dynamic for an intriging children's mystery.  Athough this is a children's books for ages 8 - 12, I fell in love with it, falling into the fantasy with effortless enjoyment and ease.  This is one of those books that you will want to read again and again.   

The Magic Gown is a timeless piece of children's literaure, a gift to us all.  Reading it makes me feel young again and I cannot wait to read it to my children.  Captivated by the first few pages I could not put it down until I had finished it.  It left a sweet taste on my tongue and the scent of roses in my psyche.

Hawleywood's Layrite Product Reviews

Searching the web for some great gifts for my hubby I came across a unique and interesting barber shop product line called Layrite.  Created by Donnie Hawley of Donnie Hawleywood's Traditional Barber shop, Layrite has a collection of men's fine grooming products.  Captivated by the Hawleywood way of life I had to get a taste of these goods and find out if my picky ... I mean my extremely tasteful husband was into them or not ...

"Very, Very Cool" sums it up best ... Donnie Hawley has created history and paved the way for others to follow in his footsteps.  Pioneering the vanishing trade of barbering, Donnie's barber shops are steeped in the magic of  the 1940's.  Described as a "mans sanctuary", his period correct 1940's, world famous shops specialize in the high and tight haircut and hot towel, straight razor shaves that were popular back then, especially among the guys in the mafia ... 

Sorry ladies ... Us girls are not invited.  The boys may want to talk about us, plus sometimes we cause a stir, you know ... and that ain't such a great idea when straight razors are involved ... 

Each cut lasts at least 45 minutes and Donnie and his crew are into perfecting, so you can expect to look good and smell good ... and maybe even picked up a few good tips by the time you leave the joint.  The barbers at Hawleywood's are famous for the quality and art of their work.  Have a drink to calm your nerve's ... They are available.  They even offer shoe shines ...

A VIP club is hidden in the back, behind a secret door that looks like a book shelf, with all the ingredients of a place a man can be a man, but with principles of course ...

The patrons were so happy with the look and smell of the barber shop experience that they wanted to use the products Donnie and the boys were using and so the Layrite brand was born.

When I received the package of goodies from Layrite a couple things popped out at me immediately.  First, the art on the labels rocks and second, I could not stop smelling them - all of them.  Wow Donnie - You have really hit a home run with scent alone ... a home run ;-)

•  Layrite No. 9 Bay Rum Aftershave, 4 oz Bottle, Price $9.99

Okay ... now I am one of those ladies who enjoys the "scent of my man" - Capish?  I normally don't go for cologne.  It came as quite a pleasant surprise when I first had the pleasantry of the aroma of this fine aftershave.  Layrite's No.9 is a masculine, clean scented aftershave that leaves my king with the graces of clove.  I love clove ... My baby and I used to smoke black clove cigarettes together back in the days of high school and I cannot express to you the overwhelming joy I feel when I smell it.

When you smell from the bottle you get a hint of clove and when it is actually applied to the skin it becomes stronger, although it is not overpowering.  The scent lasts awhile too, at least 4 to 5 hours - sometimes longer.  It is really soothing after a shave ... my husband tells me ... and one bottle lasts a long time, keeping it cost efficient.  I honesty expected this to be expensive stuff and was happy to find out that a 4 ounce was only ten lucky bucks ...

•  Layrite Original Pomade, 4oz Can, Price $14.99

Words cannot express the deliciousness of the scent of the Layrite pomade ... This is an original, unique scent, yet it feels as though I have known it forever.  I have never smelled anything like it.  It has an almost candy scent that is intensely attractive.  It is sweet, yet not feminine ... although it appeals greatly to women ...  Hints of vanilla (Nectar of the Gods) can subtly be detected ... a natural aphrodisiac!

Made for the dapper among us who know that there is no substitute for a good thing ... This is hands down, some of the best pomade I have ever used.  Unlike most pomades Layrite is water soluble, so it washes out of the hair with ease, like a gel.  I love to change my hairstyle throughout the day, something I can easily do when i use this product.  It has a nice, orange-colored, light texture that never dries or flakes in my hair.  The light, Layrite signature scent is not overpowering, although it lasts in the hair and can be detected by the initiated ...

I have found that it is important to follow the directions for best results.  Technique is crucial in achieving your own desired look.  This pomade has the strongest hold, like a wax, when used on dry hair and works best in combination with the Layrite Grooming Spray.  It was originally developed to replace the wax that greasers would use in the SoCal rockabilly scene and continues to be the pomade of choice trusted by many for over a decade.

The Layrite Superhold Pomade is just like the original except it has a  stronger hold.  I like to use the superhold when going to festivals, concerts or wild car rides ...

The super hold is especially great for up-do's that need to stay-put without fuss for awhile.  This pomade gives my hair a polished and professionally styled appearance that I feel confident using for important events ... Love this stuff!

Also available in a 1 ounce can and the super saving 32 ounce can.

•  Layrite Grooming Spray, 8 oz Bottle, Price $9.99

The Layrite Grooming Spray can be used as a way to prepare the hair for the Layrite pomade.  To prepare the hair for pomade, spray the grooming spray in the hair during the drying process.  This product also works exceptionally well as a light hold hair spray.  The signature Layrite scent graces the hair with a hint of fragrance.  I really like this product because it creates a bit of volume and does not flake in my hair.  I can change my hair style through out the day, something that I rather enjoy doing, without any difficultly.  This is a nice spray to always have on hand and it definitely makes a difference in the way the pomade works.  It helps the pomade to do what you want it to do, while creating sleeker, smoother do's.  The grooming spray also gives the pomade a longer lasting hold.

Although I originally was interested in these products for my husband, I was excited to quickly realize that the hair products are for both men and women.  My husband and myself are both overjoyed and more than satisfied with the Layrite products.  I am so happy that we have had the opportunity to try them ... Karen takes the reader on a compassionate and loving journey of forgiveness, healing and heart-filled communications that leads to a more peaceful and joyful life.  The life review is something that is said to occur at death, a purgatory of sorts, when an entire life time flashes before the eyes and can be intensely felt as though it is happening all over again.  During a life review ... in this in-between plateau ... the person will experience each life event from their own perspective, as well as the perspective and emotions of everyone else who was effected by a choice that the person has made.  It can be a transformational experience in one's life ...  if they come back to life ... experiencing the life review during a near death experience.  The beauty of this book, the first of its kind, is that Karen is guiding the reader to do a life review now, while still living.  Think about it ... Wouldn't you love to effect people in such a wonderful, loving way that when you die, you will feel how wonderful you made them feel ...   

The Power Of A Letter

The heart-opening wisdom of Karen Noe is like having a personal spiritual development teacher by your side.  Karen shows the reader how to preform a life review by writing different types of letters.  Letters to yourself, the deceased, people in your life ... Guidance toward seeing things from the eyes of others helps the reader to process events in a compassionate and loving way.  You do not have to physically send the the letters.  The intention and energy is enough to create change ...  Karen has an entire chapter on writing a letter to yourself ... perhaps the most important chapter of all!

This book is much like a workbook, without the work space.  Extra paper is mandatory.  Healing tears poured while reading and I find myself more joyful and happy already ... The book inspired me to take action.  A life review is all about the understanding that we are all responsible for our lives.  When I die I want to see my life flash before me and think ... "Wow, this is what I did.  I am so proud.  I did this.  Look at all the people I have touched ... "

Imperial Dax Product Reviews

I am on quest to find the perfect hairstyle and while mastering a great "signature do" can take time, it's well worth the effort.  On my journey through the jungle of haircare products there have been a few company's whose fruits were the most colorful amonst the wild folage.  Imperial DAX is one of them.  DAX has a nice selection of multicultural haircare products, including waxes, shampoo, oils and gels that are original and unique.

My Experience ...

I tried several Imperial DAX hair care products, some on myself and others on willing participants.  This was an interesting and fun experience, involving lots of wildness and a pinch of the unusual, bizarre and strange. 

I had twelve DAX products to play with:  DAX Indian Hemp, DAX Hair Wax, DAX Neat Waves Tri-pack, DAX Bergamot Butter, DAX Jojoba Oil, DAX Hair Mayonnaise, DAX Pomade, DAX Black Beeswax, DAX Shampoo and DAX Conditioner. 

• DAX Indian Hemp (Price: $4.82)

This is a leave-in conditioner that is used to moisturize hair and help repair dry, damaged hair.  It is especially recommended for curly and coarse hair structures.  This deep conditioning moisturizer contains hemp seed oil and vitamin E.  There are pieces of hemp seed mixed in this olive green formula. 

This Indian Hemp formula is a deep moisturizer that is meant as a leave-in conditioner, although I wash it out after about an hour or so.  It makes my hair look super healthy and shiny.  My hair has less breakage also.  I usually treat my hair once of twice a month with this hair elixir.  

• DAX Washable Hair Wax (Price: $5.64)

Wax is finding its way into more styling products these days because of its ability to hold a style and add shine.  There are a lot of different hair waxes and wax formulas on the market, labeled with all sorts of names - molding gum, putty, glue, styling paste, whip and molding gum.

This is a great wax formula to style the hair with.  It has a light scent, barely even noticeable and medium hold, perfect for short to medium styles with stiff definition, sculpting and spiking.  It also works really well for dreadlocks and braid ends.  The DAX wax contains real beeswax, which is nourishing for the hair, and a special chemical that makes it wash out of the hair easier.  

I like this wax because it washes out of the hair easy and makes it a breeze to style on a dime's notice.  It works especially well for extreme, rock and roll hairstyles.  It is an extremely affordable wax that compares to many high-end price waxes that are similar.  I have found this wax to be nourishing and moisturizing, never drying my hair out.

• DAX ROOTS Jojoba Oil (Price: $16.87)

All products from the DAX ROOTS collection are free of  Petrolatum and Mineral Oil, contributing to healthier hair and scalp & a healthier, cleaner earth.

Jojoba oil is the liquid wax ester produced by the botanical extraction of the seed of the jojoba plant and has been used for centuries as a hair and scalp treatment.  Known as nature’s multi-tasker, jojoba oil is fabulous for creating miracles for the hair and skin.  The oil quickly penetrates to moisturize without leaving an oily residue.  The DAX ROOTS Jojoba Oil is infused with other natural conditioners including castor oil, coconut oil, almond oil, avocado oil and olive oil. 

The Jojoba oil by DAX is one of my favorite products by this company.  It gives my hair incredible shine, smoothing away fly-aways with healthy and nutrient-rich ingredients.  It smells deliscious ... like cupcakes and cotton candy.  This oil blend is rich and creamy, absorbing easily into my hair and scalp.  Using this oil is such a pleasurable experience.  The DAX Roots Jojoba blend makes a great scalp massage oil also.  Deeply conditioning, my hair has never looked healthier.  A little goes a long, long way ... 

• DAX ROOTS Bergamot Butter (Price: $16.87)

All products from the DAX ROOTS are free of  Petrolatum and Mineral Oil making them nourishing and health supporting. 

The scent of the Bergamot Butter by DAX is basically citrus, fruity and sweet, with a warm & spicy, yet lite floral quality.  It is relaxing and yet stimulating at the same time.  Bergamot, native to Italy and named after the Italian city of Bergamo, was traditionally admired and applied for its scent.  Bergamot oil continues to be used in aromatherapy for multiple healing properties.  This important historical ingredient has been used for centuries to revitalize, invigorate and beautify the hair.

The exotic, calming and warm aroma of this butter has such a soothing and enlivening quality about it that I find myself using it often.  A few of the ingredients included in this butter are shea butter, olive oil, jojoba oil and glycerin.  The bergamot butter was formulated to reduce breakage, heal flaky scalp, reduce frizz, add shine, enliven dry or dull hair and help enhance hair length.  It helps to heal damaged hair extremely well, while preventing against future damage also.

I find this product to be yet another favorite by DAX - simply lovely.  It makes my hair really shiny without weighing it down, as long as I only use a small pea-sized amount.

• DAX ROOTS Hair Mayonnaise (Price: $15.47)

Have you ever treated your hair with mayonnaise?  Much like real mayonnaise, the DAX ROOTS Hair Mayonnaise is also a deep conditioning and healing treatment for your hair.  All products from the DAX ROOTS line are free of  Petrolatum and Mineral Oil, a key feature in this hair treatment.  You can use this mayonnaise as a hair mask or surprisingly as a daily conditioner.  It contains almond oil, avocado oil, wheat protein, hydrolyzed collagen, jojoba seed extract and dried egg whites among the many healthy and nutritious ingredients.

Some hairstyles require the slick and heavy pomade to do the magic that only grease can do.  Pomade is a hair product that does not get hard the way that many hair product do in the hair ... used to add a shiny and slick appearance.  Pomades work especially well on coarse, thick or wavy hair.  Pomade is often used to create spikes or the popular  pieces & parts, intentionally unkempt, untidy look that has become so fashionable with the younger generations.  Pomade is perfect for flattops, pompadours, spikes, greaser, blow-outs, rockabilly styles, emo or punk rock do's, 50's and 60's style  ...

DAX pomade contains petroleum jelly which is the base of pretty much every pomade product ... but not all of them.  This is a lighter pomade, that makes my hair very soft and healthy as long as I only use a small amount.  I don't use it to grease my hair, but to control fly aways and make it shiny.  It is easy to use to much ... then my hair looks way to greasy.  This pomade is said to improve the appearance of the hair overtime when used daily.  It contains lanolin, coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil, mineral oil and bergamot.

Pomade is used to add shine, lift, root-lift or to add texture to the ends of your hair.  It controls fly-away hair like magic and is deeply conditioning.  The price for a 14 ounces of this stuff is $6.14, enough to last for a long-long time.

Three DAX hair dress formulas: DAX Neat Waves, DAX Wave & Groom & DAX Short & Neat makes it easy to find the perfect product to use or to create a nice variety of hair styles.

The Wave & Groom is a strong, thick holding wax that works extremely well for mohawks, stiff definition, sculpting, spiking and short hair styles.  It has a comforting scent that is light and sweet.  I like to use this at Halloween time when doing the hair of all the vampires, rockstars and punks in the house.  It works well for dramatic looks, especially when going to a concert or music festival.




The Neat Waves hair dress is a styling wax that also works well for spiking, stiff definition and sculpting, but it has medium hold rather than maximum hold.  It is also less shiny than the Wave and Groom formula. 

The Short & Neat is the lightest of this duo, with a light hold.  It has a lighter textural appearance with a more liquid consistency than the other two.  It is also a styling wax that is used for stiff definition, sculpting and spiking. It works best for short to medium length hair.  All three products have the same comforting sweet scent.

Of all the products that I have used by DAX this is by far my favorite ...

Beeswax is a very natural substance that contains beneficial properties found in items such as soaps, pharmaceutical products, lipsticks, ointments, creams, lip balms, polishes, candles, cosmetic and hair care products.

This is a petroleum wax formula that contains nourishing and fortifying royal jelly along with pure beeswax.  It has a intensely sweet, pleasing aroma that lasts for a long time on the hair.  Beeswax naturally has a sweet fragrance and helps to protect hair from environmental damage.  Beeswax is also a  thickening agent, so it can add volume to your hair.  It makes hair more manageable when you're styling with it. 

This DAX black beeswax formula works great for braids, dreadlocks, pompadours, curling/pressing hair, mohawks and other 50’s and 60s hairstyles or other hard to hold hairdos.  It is important to note that this is not a pure beeswax, rather a DAX blend.  This wax has a slight black tint to it that easily washes out of the hair.  This wax is nourishing and conditioning, giving my hair a nice healthy shine.

• DAX Removing Shampoo (Price: $5.90)

This is a great degreasing shampoo that really does a great job getting out all the products I have mentioned in this review from your hair.  Pomades, waxes, oils and grease can be exhaustingly difficult to remove from the hair.  DAX shampoo does the job of cleaning the hair well, without stripping it of color and shine. 

I like this shampoo, mainly because it is deep cleaning.  It is slightly chemical smelling and I find myself using a lot of it when I do need to, usually washing my hair at least twice.  If I am caught in a situation without any, I reach for the dish detergent and olive oil solution ... which always does the trick ... but honestly having a degreasing shampoo on hand really makes life easier ... especially while on the road.  This shampoo is the perfect solution to oily hair as well.

• DAX Conditioner (Price: $5.90)

This conditioner is made to accompany the DAX Removing Shampoo.  It has a chemical scent, as the shampoo does and reminds ALOT of being in a salon.  Neither the shampoo or conditioner leave a chemical scent in the hair and I found that they both worked well.  This conditioner has nourishing ingredients including wheat protein to strengthen the hair.
