Ten Beauty & Cosmetic Brands & Products That I Love

This beauty must-have list is sure to help you kick off the season on the right foot.

I literally try hundreds of products, most of which do not really strike any chords, barely even creating a memory. There are of course those gems in the beauty business. The cosmetic industry certainly has a treasure chest full of them. Those rare jewels are the products that make being a beauty editor one of the best jobs around. I often get asked if I have a favorites list. You asked and here it is, some of my most loved beauty elixirs, products and companies that I honesty can recommend to you. Although this is in no way a complete list, I have lots of favorites, I present to you ten of the best cosmetics and companies that I have found over the last year in no particular significant order. Oh alright, I get things jump started with the Numero-Uno, and the remaining nine come in second to the Hungarian Queen of Beauty - Eminence.

Eminence Handmade & Organic Skin Care Of Hungary

The Hungarian women of the world have been known to have some of the most treasured secrets of ancient beauty since times of old. This legend of Hungarian beauty has lived through-out history. Royalty would travel through Europe with hopes of absorbing the techniques of the Hungarians, bathing in thermal springs and eating the nutrient-abundant agriculture of Hungary. It is this rich soil that continues to create potent elixirs, cosmetics, lotions and potions today in the Eminence formulas. Organic living has always been a way of life in Hungary and this creates the nutrient-dense soil that spills over into the crops. Eminence continues this tradition by following the age old techniques of our Hungarian ancestors to achieve the prized results.

The soil and tender loving care given to the ingredients life cycle is a big reason why Eminence products are so potent. A lot of love and wisdom goes into each and every batch, every step along the way.
Handmade in Hungary, Eminence is truly a treasure and in a class all its own. Powerful in results, Eminence products are used in top spas around the world and continues to win the favorite skin care line by spa professionals, year after year.

I love using Eminence products. They are colorful and smell delicious, bursting with fruit pulp and juices. Eminence products are so organic that you could actually eat them. I could not make products this fabulous myself, unless of course I traveled to Hungary, learned their secrets and used ingredients from the soil, tended in traditional loving ways. I am pretty sure I would also need the blessings of a Hungarian also.
Eminence is green, natural and organic. For more information about Éminence Organic Skin Care please visit eminenceorganics.

  • Handmade
  • Used in top spas
  • Award-winning

Batiste Dry Shampoo

Batiste Dry Shampoo is a top pick for me because put simply "I Love this stuff." I have been hooked since I began using it for camping and festivals to stay "fresh and desirable", falling in love with the convenience of dry shampoo and the the way it gives my hair volume seemingly effortless. Effortless is good, especially when you are living in a tent or motor home for a day or two, or for even an afternoon. Music festivals and campgrounds are so much funner when you feel gorgeous. Now-a-days, festival season or not, I carry a can, no matter where I go.

Dry shampoo, if you haven't guessed it, is a powdered shampoo that is designed to work without water. Dry shampoo makes your hair look and smell clean, even when its not. It also gives your hair more volume. Over washing your hair can strip it of the natural oils your body provides and when it comes to hair washing less can actually be more. I have definitely noticed a difference in the condition of my hair since I stopped washing it so much. Although many companies have there own version of dry shampoo, Batiste is my favorite. Batiste is the #1 dry shampoo brand in the UK. It is inexpensive and works really well for me. If your hair is really dark, however you might find that this product leaves a gray cast in your hair. Be sure to follow the directions to avoid this from happening. For more information please visit Batiste Dry Shampoo at batistehair.

Pros
  • Add immediate volume to hair
  • Low-cost
  • Nice scent
  • #1 brand in UK
Cons
  • If hair is really dark, product might make hair appear grey
  • Although inexpensive, product goes fast
Viviscal

Viviscal is a vitamin supplement specifically formulated to help regrow and strengthen hair. This all natural vitamin helps to promote hair growth and at the same time improving hair quality. When I heard about this product I was both excited and skeptical. I always thought it would be so fabulous to have a vitamin for the hair that actually showed results. Viviscal's special blend of ArminoM Marine Complex polysaccharides is derived from deep-sea fish.

You take two tablets a day and results begin to show within a few months. I could see results within two months of using this product. My hair appeared stronger and with less breakage. Although I am really uncertain if this will work for everyone, it worked quite well for me. The cost of a monthly 60 tablet box of Viviscal is $33.33. To learn more about Viviscal please visit viviscal.com.

Pros
  • All natural, vitamin supplement
  • Reasonably priced, bordering pricey
  • Strengthen and regrow healthier hair from the inside, rather than topically
Cons
  • Does not show results for 2-3 months
  • You must continue to take this supplement
A Wild Soapbar

I have been obsessed with natural, real soap ever since my first time around the block in college, when I made a batch myself. Did you know that most so called "soap" is not soap at all, rather detergent that usually contains harmful chemicals. I consider myself a connoisseur of natural, real soap, having used many in my days. A wild soapbar soaps are handmade with 100% certified organic vegetable oils, real essential oils and organic herbs making them safe for us, our unborn children and the planet. They also work great, smell intoxicating and are beautifully crafted in design. Wild soapbar soaps make great gifts, especially for yourself.
I am spellbound by the captivating scent of the black willow bark wild soapbar. I especially love the juniper berry shampoo and body bar. The idea of washing my hair and body with the same soap never fails to get my attention. The prickly pear with aloe and clay bar smells exotic and spicy, and is used to treat scrapes, rashes, boils and burns on the skin. A wild soapbar soaps are cruelty free, organic, natural, green and non-toxic biodegradable. Abar of the soap does not go as fast as some of the other real soaps I have tried, which is important if you are on a soap budget. Yes, I said soap budget. My husband insisted. Hey, I love real soap. These soaps retail around $6.00, I would pay $10.00. To learn more about A wild soapbar please visit a Wild Soapbar at awildsoapbar.com. Garden of Eve

Garden of Eve products are food for the skin. This is necessary to balance and replenish on a cellular level, without any build-up to clog pores or prevent the skin from breathing. Eve Stahl, the founder and mastermind of Garden of Eve Skin Care is a nutritional consultant and skin care expert. Her passion for purity motivated Eve to create a safe and natural skincare line, after discovering that toxic chemicals were making her extremely ill. She searched the shelves for a 100% all natural skincare line with no avail and so she decided to make her own products. After a desire to test a theory about clean cosmetics on her clients of her nutritional consultation she began to make her products outside of her own personal use and Garden of Eve was born.

Eve is just as selective with what she puts on her body, as what she puts into her body. Eve feels strongly about health, producing organic skin care products that resonate with a love of nature and the environment. No chemicals get past Eve or her products. Just amazing ingredients that are good for you such as natural, organic and wild crafted botanicals. As a proud signer of The Compact for Safe Cosmetics, Garden of Eve manufactures and provides a safe alternative to products that contain harsh chemicals that can seriously harm a person’s health. Mad Hippie Skin Care

In case you missed the beauty train the last decade, natural, organic and green no longer means "the Winnebago is in the driveway, clothing is optional and the granola is packed. Did I mention Dr Bronners?" I myself have always been a proud hippie, listening to the greats like Led Zepplen, Lynard Skynard, the Beatles and CCR while enjoying the company of the neighborhood weeds. Most people do not know the treasures that grow in their own backyard. Wildcrafting is the official name, but to everyone else, they call them weeds and when I talk to them I am a nature loving, tree hugging hippie. I love the wild too much to care and I must admit the name of this company is where the initial attraction was. Not sure what to expect I awaited my Mad Hippie face cream and Mad Hippie vitamin C serum. I love vitamin c serum and am on a secret mission to create my own some day ...

As a natural and organic beauty product junkie, I can never have enough healthy cosmetics. I am happy with both products that I received, especially the face cream. It is not too heavy, nor does it break my skin out the way some face creams do. It contains soenzyme Q10, resveratrol, green tea and matrixyl 3000. The full ingredient list is provided on the website. For more information please visit Mad Hippie at madhippie.com.

Pros
  • Natural, organic beauty line
  • Full ingredient list available

Kelly Teegarden Organics (KTO)

Kelly Teegarden, the founder of this extra-ordinary line is an inspiration. She was diagnosed with thyroid cancer after the sixth sense of her intuitive mother sent her to her doctor to get checked out for an abnormality that only she noticed at the time. "She spotted the erroneous tumor on my throat; she is the angel that saved my life.", Kelly says about her mom who so adamantly told her she must get her neck checked out even though the doctors said everything was fine. As Kelly Teegarden says, "Everyone is fallible, even the doctors." Her courage, determination and strength in her fight against cancer is heart touching. A mother of three young children and near death, Kelly prayed to God, asking for a second chance at life. She made a deal with the divine stating that if she came through the horrific suffering, with another opportunity at life she would do something incredible, something amazing to give back to the world ... and she did. This story never fails to create such a stir of emotion in me. I have deep respect for this woman whose suffering she transformed into a miracle that touches the hearts of many.

Kelly Teegarden has created an affordable line of products that is completely chemical free. She created KTO when she learned that the cause of her cancer and the cancer of so many others is from chronic stress and toxic chemicals. Her mission is to create a safe line of products that nourish, protect and work great. I am completely addicted to her rose water. This is my favorite brand of rose water ever. Once you try it you will know why. There are absolutely no cancer causing ingredients, no hormone disruptors, no organ toxicity and no toxic levels of ingredients in any of these products. I cannot wait to try this entire line. For more information please visit Kelly Teegarden Organics.

In her travels she began to research, study and collect beauty secrets and anti-aging ingredients from all around the world. My husband likes it and that uplifts my mood ...

At $85.00 for 30ml/1 fl oz. this serum is definitely a splurge, but to me it is well worth it. Fair trade, green, eco-friendly, cruelty-free and handmade with 100% natural and organic ingredients, the Global face serum is completely free of synthetic fragrances, petrochemicals, artificial fragrance, parabens, silicone or any other chemical ingredient.
