Review: Shanleya's Quest Book & Game

Shanleya's Quest is an instant classic.  Designed for children ages 9 to 99, the book teaches about botany in a way that I have never seen before.  Shanleya's Quest presents botanical concepts and plant identification skills in an easy and fun metaphorical format for children as well as for adults who are young at heart.Shanleya's Quest begins with a creation myth that parallels evolutionary concepts, where life begins as bubbles in a puddle of soup under the radiance of Father Sun and the gentle glow of Mother Moon.

I am so grateful for this book, as it is truly a masterpiece of its kind.

Shanleya's Quest Patterns in Plants Card Game is designed to be played after reading the book ... pure genius.  It is a fun way to test the skills involved in identifying botanical family patterns that are described in the book.  I have so much fun playing this game.  It helps me learn too.  What a great idea!!!

Review: Sacred Space Meditation Cards, Elinor Von Linden

Sacred Space Meditation CardsThe Sacred Space Meditation Cards are a unique and beautiful deck of affirmations on one side, and real pictures of space, from the Hubble Space Telescope on the other side.

A book of cards, this deck looks more like a book, but upon deeper inspection you quickly learn that the "book" pages come out, becoming cards.

Review: Ambre Blends

Ambre Blends in one of my new favorite organic skin care line.  They have some exceptional products that I cannot live without, including their deodorant and skin tonic.  Before I share my thoughts about the products I reviewed let's first learn a little about Ambre Blends.

Ambre Blends, an independent, women-owned business in Indianapolis Indiana, has been producing high-quality, organic body products since 2001. Ambre Blends products are available in four delicate, all-natural essences and are worn by both women and men. All products are made by hand with 100% pure and natural vegan ingredients from all over the world.

Ambre Blends puts a lot of thought and energy into the product packaging in an effort to be green and conscious about our environment.  They design all of our packaging to be minimal, simplistic and made from clean materials so that the products can ‘speak for themselves’.

All packaging is recyclable and some packaging is made from already recycled materials.  Some of the packing is even biodegradable!  Many of the products packaging is even designed to be reusable.  For example, the10ml oil essence roll-ons can be refilled from our 30ml oils which is both ecologically and economically minded.  Ambre Blends also strives to support the country by purchasing the packaging from USA vendors and always looking to source new packaging from local, regional and US based companies.  Overall, Ambre Blends looks to be consciously minded when selecting packaging to reflect the company’s focus on organic, all-natural and environmentally-kind products.

Amber oil has been used for centuries for its medicinal and aphrodisiac qualities. The blending of amber oil, the primary ingredient in all Ambre Blends products, with other organic essential oils creates Ambre Essence.

Once activated by the body’s warmth, the essences produce a unique, long lasting, individual fragrance that exquisitely compliments one’s own natural chemistry. Ambre Blends selects only the finest, organic ingredients to soothe the mind and protect the well-being. The mix of these ingredients produces a clean, sensual and addictive essence which develops a unique scent on each wearer.

The seductive, aphrodisiac qualities of Ambre Blends products is completely addictive. I receive many compliments when wearing the oils ... and some come in the form of kisses!!!

I was fortunate to try several products from this line, a company who is one of the best in the biz and a personal favorite of mine.

4in1-skintonic4@300The Skin Tonic is absolutely amazing.  It consists of 100% natural plant based oils and certified organic ingredients and is loaded with vitamins & omegas.  Although designed for the face, yet also works great on the body.  If you do use it on the face, however, do not get it into the eyes.  In fact, keep a safe distance from the eyes because it burns very badly if any an all gets even near them.  The scent is out-of-this-world sexy ... It comes in a 4oz  glass bottle that is 100% recyclable and is available in 4 scents.  This is such a luxury to have ... very hydrating, good for the skin and absorbs quickly.  I absolutely LOVE IT!!!

I have tried may natural deodorants, many do not work at all, some are mediocre, while others trump the rest.  Ambre Natural Deodorant is a Trump Card.  This is the best natural deodorant I have ever used in my life.  Actually this is the best deodorant of any kind, poisonous or not, that I have ever used.  For me it last for 24 hours, something I have never experienced before and it works so well!!!!  Ambre Blends truly has a winner with this product!!!  I cannot live without it.
The price is $34.00 each, but let me tell you ... it is worth it!!! The tube lasts a very long time.  I have found that using this deodorant actually saves me money ... so ... don't let that price fool you.  This is a great deal, especially for a Trump Card.
With four different scents to choose from, and seriously with Ambre Blends, you really can't go wrong with any of them.  I tried both the unscented and the solace.  The solace deodorant had a very light scent, another aspect that I loved about this deodorant.

Simply Brilliant Formula!!!

Ambre Blends Natural Deodorant is 100% pure, all-natural and free of all toxins typically found in most deodorants and antiperspirants. Ambre Blends deodorant is filled with antibacterial, deodorizing and soothing ingredients to eliminate body odor while also radiating your favorite Ambre Blends scent. The all-natural, organic ingredients in our Ambre Blends Natural Deodorant include Ambre Blends Oil Essence, probiotics, coconut oil, shea butter, aloe vera, baking soda, arrowroot, grapefruit seed extract and natural wax.

Most deodorants and antiperspirants on the market include aluminum, paraben, propylene glycol, phthalates and triclosan which have been linked to breast cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and other health problems. Ambre Blends Natural Deodorants contain none of these synthetic ingredients.

The primary ingredient in the Ambre Blends Natural Deodorant is the Ambre Blends Oil Essence in one of our four signature scents (Ambre, Invoke, Solace or Unmasque). Because the oil essences are naturally activated by body heat, utilizing the oil essence along with our other deodorizing and anti-bacterial ingredients results in a pleasant natural scent which masks and/or eliminates natural body odor. In addition, because of the all-natural ingredients in our Ambre Blends Natural Deodorant, the two ounce tube is long lasting (approximately three months) with normal use.

The Ambre Blends Natural Deodorant is aluminum and synthetic free.  It is not an antiperspirant. Therefore, when using this product, you will perspire as your body works to rid itself of toxins. But keep in mind...sweating is a natural and necessary body process. Using synthetic antiperspirants prevents this natural process thereby keeping toxins in your system by clogging your pores.

samplepack@300 Ambre Blends Natural Deodorant is a long-lasting, effective deodorizing, antibacterial and soothing deodorant.  You will notice less sweating after continued use of this product.

The sample pack contains a sample vial of all four Ambre Blends essences.  This is a great way to try all four scents!

I highly recommend Ambre Blends!!!

Review: Lily Farm Fresh Skin Care

I love the Lily Farm Fresh Skin Care story.  Inspired by the owner, Lilys' difficult skin and acne troubles, she developed the line back in 1986, pioneering organic skin care, with the first and original Colorado organic skin care company.  Nothing worked for her acne, except organic skin care ... and so ... she decided to do something good with her discovery and share this information, and her fabulous products with the world.  I love this product line ... nourishing, cleaning and keeping my skin as healthy as possible.  It glows radiantly when I use them!!!  This is one of the best organic care product lines that I have ever used ... LOVE IT!!!

Lily Farm Fresh Skin Care products are 100% organic.  They actually grow 70% of the essential herbs for the products locally in Colorado, from seed to harvest. They then hand-process the ingredients into each batch of skin care and ensure that each bottle is made from the most quality plants and herbs possible. It’s as raw and natural as it can get. Lily not only bottles us the organic skin care products and ships them to stores like Whole Foods and Vitamin Cottage, but she also grows every herb and essential plant for her products in her organic farm in Colorado. It’s truly remarkable.

Whereas some “organically” labeled products source their ingredients, Lily sows, plants, nurtures and harvests her ingredients by hand. It is the most raw and natural process for any skin care product, and Lily firmly believes the process delivers a superior product.

The Lily Farm Fresh Organic Skin Care line includes cleansers, moisturizers, toners, mask and lip treatments and anti-aging skin care for a variety of skin types.

Precise amounts of organic ingredients like almond oil, aloe vera, ylang ylang, tea tree oil, elder and coltsfoot are added to each batch.

Pros

  • 100 % organic
  • Quality ingredients
  • Nourishing
  • Made by someone who uses the products
  • 100% satisfaction guaranteed to make your skin glow for all consumers
  • Absolutely no synthetic chemicals

  • Been around for nearly 20 years
  • Support American Made and Colorado Made products
  • Support the original pioneer in Colorado organic skin care
  • Great customer service
  • Reasonably priced
  • High Quality

I tried four different products from this large skin care line: the balancing facial toner, balancing seaweed facial cleanser, Kissable lips - moisturizing lip balm and the hydrating moisture mist.

The balancing facial toner (3.4 oz, $18.79) contains fennel and chamomile.  It has a light, refreshing scent that is relaxing to my senses.  I like the way this toner gives my skin a light glow, while balancing out my complexion.  It is also hydrating and contains comfrey, which is said to be one of the best anti-wrinkle ingredient in the world.  I absolutely love this toner ... LOVE!!!  It really is the best toner I have ever used and the price is certainly right, especially for the exceptional quality.

The balancing seaweed facial cleanser (trial size, .5 oz, $4.95) is a pleasant and refreshing cleanser that tones, detoxifies, balancies and cleanses the skin. The antibacterial properties of Tea Tree Oil and Rosemary that are within the formula  make it ideal for acne, something I certainly would vouch for.  It works very well and cleared my skin up immediately.

The hydrating moisture mist (1 oz, $6.49) is a lovely, refreshing and nourishing, botanical mist that keeps the skin hydrated, supple and balanced.  The scent is very nice.  The mist prevents wrinkles and dryness.  I am especially fond of this product, especially during the hot months of Summer.  The herbs in this formula are cell rejuvenative and anti-inflammatory. It can be kept in the refrigerator for extra cooling during warm seasons.

The kissable lips chap balm is great for chapped lips.  It does not run out quickly like many of the other natural lip balms and is a great price at under $5.00.  It contains almond oil, an emollient that softens the lips and sesame oil that soothes the lips.

Review: Olympic Orchids Perfumes

I adore good natural perfumery ... something that is harder to find than you would think.  A good perfumery has several things that I look for when reviewing: A-class ingredients, all-natural, incredible fragrances, affordable and reasonable prices.  Olympic Orchard Scents certainly has my seal of approval.

Olympic Orchard Scents creates handcrafted artisan fragrance products by perfumer Ellen Covey.  She uses natural essential oils, absolutes, or infusions whenever possible. In the mixed media scents, however, she sometimes does supplement the natural essential oil base with synthetic notes from the same manufacturers who supply the top European perfume manufacturers.  Soap and perfume are made using the same or similar formula and ingredients. All products are formulated to be on the high end of their concentration range. Pure perfume is 30-33% fragrance materials and eau de parfum is 15-20%. All of the spray bottles that I use are refillable, and packaging materials are biodegradable.

I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to test many of the perfumes from the Olympic Orchard Scents line.  They have a large selection and you can tell immediately that the ingredients are pure and the formulas are well-made.

I certainly have some favorites ...

California Chocolate - wow, this is a delicious orange and chocolate scent that is so yummy, someone may just come up to you and take a bite ... or at least compliment you!  I compliment myself when I where it.  California Chocolate puts me into an instant good mood.  The scent is indescribably good.  Seductive and blissful, I cannot help but go to higher planes of consciousness, my vibration lifted an entire octave when I where this delightful scent.  Notes of wild orange, grapefruit, yuzu, white cognac, neroli, dark chocolate, patchouli, musk, and Bourbon vanilla dance in delight ...

Seattle Chocolate - much darker and deeper than California Chocolate, this perfume is a bit more daring, a bit more bold.  Chocolate blends with notes of evergreen wood, moss, and sap, softened with sweet gourmand notes, dark cacao, black Bourbon vanilla, sweet poplar bud, evergreen wood, oakmoss, gourmand musk, silver fir, and fir balsam absolute.  This scent makes me want to pack my bags and head toward Seattle.

Blackbird - a striking and alluring scent that invites you closer, leaving you with a taste for more.  Containing notes of Himalayan blackberry fruit, dry grass and leaves, elemi, cedar wood and resin, amber, fir balsam absolute and musk, Blackbird is a classic scent, that is certain to have devoted followers anywhere it is sold.

Osafume - an immediate vision of fairies at a party with cake, lots of cake ... deep within the forest, hidden by a circle of beautiful blossoms.  Inspired by a dainty miniature Japanese orchid, Dendrobium moniliforme, Osafume contains notes of anise, magnolia, heliotrope, vanilla, and white musk.

Golden Cattleya - an indescribable transformation occurs, as though this perfume is more of a beauty potion.  I immediately feel as though I am clothed in the finest silks, lying within a open grassy field and surrounded by blossoms of delightful description.

Elektra - a sharp and unsuspecting note immerses from the original curiosity that initially beckons, an invitation to come closer ...

Olympic Orchard Scents even has scents for those who like to live and play on the dark side of life.  Inspired by Sheila Eggenberger's novel Quantum Demonology, the Devil Scent Project is a collaboration between Sheila of The Alembicated Genie and the following perfumers: Ellen Covey (Olympic Orchids) Neil Morris  (Neil Morris Fragrances), Amanda Feeley (Esscentual Alchemy) Monica Miller (Perfume Pharmer) Kedra Hart (Opus Oils), and Maria McElroy and Alexis Karl (Aroma M/Cherry Bomb Killer Perfumes/Scents by Alexis).

DEV 1-4 represent a suite of variations on the characteristic labdanum-based scent of the Devil (Dev) throughout the different phases of the narrative, and LIL is the sharp, green fragrance of Lilith, the original Eve and wife of Dev.

Foreplay from the Devil Scent Project is intoxicating ... haunting, an invitation that beckons.  The Main Act reminds me of dirt and alcohol, with a wild and raw attribute that is anything but ordinary.

The Devil Scent project is a collection worth visiting.

I am completely in love with Olympic Orchids perfumes.  You will be too ... Please visit Olympic Orchids for more information.

Review: Harmony Acres Patchouli Soap, Lotion & Spray

Harmony Acres is an all natural shop that uses only the very best plant-derived essential oils to scent their products.  They never, ever use any kind of carcinogenic, man-made, synthetic oils.  I love the vibe I get from this company ... very positive, good karmic vibes.

I tried three of their many products, all patchouli earth scented: a bar of soap, whole body moisturizing lotion and natural smelly spray.  The verdict, I completely love LOVE love them all.  Superior quality, with a scent that is certainly one of the best patchouli's that I have ever experienced and excellent prices.

The Patchouli Earth bar soap is luxurious and rich.  Made with saponified oils of olive, almond, avocado, castor and organic shea butter, cocoa powder, red kaolin clay, essential oils of patchouli, lavender & vanilla, this truly one of a kind soap will certainly have you stocking the shelves with it.  It is sooooo goood!  The scent lasts long on my skin and makes the bathroom smell like a spa ... My husband loves this soap too!!!

The Patchouli Earth Lotion is made with water, avocado oil, organic unrefined shea butter and essential oils; non carcinogenic preservative.  This lotion is completely addictive.  It penetrates deep and the scent lasts for a long time on my skin.  I do wish that a larger size was available, because I can use it up quickly because I like it so much.

The Patchouli Earth Smelly Spray is completely awesome.  It is not overpowering, creating just a hint of scent that lasts for hours.  It is great to spray on my clothes, bed pillows, my hair, my skin ... pretty much anything.  It is made from water, aloe juice, triple distilled alcohol; essential oils of patchouli, lavender and vanilla and a natural preservative.

Harmony Acres gets my gold star of approval.  Please visit them at http://www.harmonyacressoap.com

Review: Witch's Brew: Secrets of Scents

Witch's Brew: Secrets of Scents Obsessed with perfuming for quite sometime, I find it important to get my hands on every perfuming book possible.  Uncertain what Witch's Brew: Secret Of Scents was about, I thought it couldn't hurt to add it to my collection of potion, lotion and perfume books, so I gave it a read.  Happy to report, this book is exceptional.  Unable to afford perfuming training just yet, I feel like I have learned some of the secrets of the trade, without investing thousands of dollars.

Review: Saint Teresa of Avila: The Passionate Mystic (Contemplations & Living Wisdom)

Saint Teresa of AvilaSaint Teresa of Avila has certainly touched the author in a profound way.  From the very first page of the writing of Mirabai Starr her heart pours open with the love for the saintly attributes of our blessed Teresa.

A foreword by Caroline Myss adds big credentials to this small book.

The book is a blessing, connecting the reader to the passionate mystic Teresa from the very beginning.  I love to keep this book in my bag and read it any time I need a little dose of inspiration, wisdom and strength.

Botany in a Day APG
The Patterns Method of Plant Identification

than learning new plants one-at-a-time, it is possible
to learn them by the hundreds, based on plant family
patterns and this book teaches you how.

This book teaches how to recognize patterns
within the natural plant world, as well as spot
