Review: Fawn and Dallas - Blessings

Husband and wife team, Fawn Wood (Cree/Salish) and Dallas Waskahat (Cree) unify their creative talents, giving birth to the 13-track album, Blessings.  Released from Canyon Records, Blessings is sure to inspire, lighting a flame deep within the hearts of all who listen, encouraging deep healing and holistic wellness.  The vocal tracks are sung, at times spoken, in English, vocables and Plains Cree.  The evocative, soulful voices of both Fawn and Dallas stir up emotions sometimes buried deep within the subconsciousness.  The album features the award-winning Anthony Wakeman playing the Native American flute, adding depth and deeper vision to the album.  Hand drums, rattles, various other percussion, Wakemans' Native American flute and intense vocals come together creating this gorgeous, emotionally colorful and rich collection of recordings.

Infused with deep feeling and a lot of love, Blessings resonates strength and gratitude for all life's experiences.  Blessings is a celebration of life itself, while serving as music to honor the earth, soothe the lonely and celebrate the joy of being alive. Indigenous singing has been an integral part of the healing in the communities of both Fawn and Dallas.  This album is a way of giving back, of sharing with everyone the healing potential of the music itself.

A romantic at heart, I especially enjoy track 12, Just for You, a song written by Fawn for Dallas, her husband, expressing her love and devotion to the one person who she knows she is meant to be with.  I also am madly in love with track 13, titled Blessings.  The perfect ending song to a rainbow of life experiences within this collection of music, Fawn's spoken word prayers in track 13 remind me that I am have the strength within me to face anything and everything that comes my way. Yes, I sure do ... although sometimes I really need a healthy reminder ...

Blessing is unique in the sense that the album permeates with the love and bond of Fawn, Dallas and there little guy, Alexzander.  What a great way to grow up, with loving parents that make music together.  I LOVE this album ... a favorite in my collection.
