Safari Ltd. - Education Toys For All Ages

I am a home schooling mommy!  Having the right tools has been my secret for many many years.  Safari Ltd. has been a treasure of find in the education development of my children.  Headquartered in Florida, Safari Ltd is an American manufacturer of educational animal and human replicas.  Their principle market is the United States where they sell mainly to museums, aquariums, zoos, arts and crafts stores, and educational stores. Safari Ltd. has exclusive license agreements with Pittsburg's Carnegie Museum of Natural History to produce one of the largest scale model dinosaur collections in the world and with the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California to produce a collection of scale model sea life replicas.  Born in 1982, Safari Ltd® has been making quality replicas and toys for over thirty years.  They support many global non-profit efforts in the fields of conservation, animal protection and ecologically sound business practices.  Green, sustainable, and thoroughly safety tested, Safari Ltd, is a name you can trust.  All of their products are phthalate-free and lead-free.

When looking at the wonderful selection Safari Ltd. has my creative juices started to flow and I was able to really utilize their replicas into my homeschooling lesson plans.  The website itself has lots of education material and it has become a great reference guide to the natural world.

Here are a few ways we studied together, as a family, incorporating Safari Ltd. products into the lesson.  I am especially fond of family lessons because it helps us all bond ... and honesty how much do you really remember from school???

Lesson 1:  The Ocean

For this lesson, the focus was more on basics of the ocean beach, such as sand, shells and animals.  For this lesson, the husband, my self and the children took a trip to the ocean ... so much fun.  For this lesson I used several Safari Ltd. products: the Hermit Crab (pictured to the left - cute isn't it?), the Life Cycle of a Green Sea Turtle, Sealife Megatube and the Seashells tube.  On our way to the ocean, in the motorhome, we played some games, discussing all of these products and rewarding points for the correct answers.  Then points were rewarded to anyone who saw any sealife, a crab (any crab was okay in our game), a turtle or any stages of a turtle (which got extra points) and any of the shells.  The shells in the tube are so life like ... gorgeous!!!  When we got to the beach we began to explore.  Any questions the children had I wrote down, if I did not know the answers, and I looked them up later.  Having the replicas was wonderful because it gave the children something to identify with and look for when we were at the beach.  This was the funnest beach trip we ever took.

 Lesson 2: The Peacock

For this lesson, we planned an outing to the local zoo.  I had all sorts of great information on some print outs available in my bag, as well as this cute peacock replica from Safari Ltd.  The detail of this piece is incredible.  My girls love this Safari Ltd. Peacock and they play with it all the time.  I also studied up on the symbol of the peacock and shared this with my husband.  I love learning together as a family ...

Lesson 3: The Dragon

The dragon has such rich symbolism throughout literature.  For the little ones, I shared some basic stories that included a dragon and we discussed the dragons' role in books and movies, as well as described the characters of each dragon. Having the dragon figure for the children helped tremendously.  I asked them whether on not they should make friends with the dragon or not.  A good question ... What do you think?

Lesson 4: Electricity and Conductivity

This energy ball helps to teach the principles of electricity and conductivity.  It made teaching a difficult subject for me much easier.  It sure helped me learn.

Safari Ltd. is awesome.  I cannot recommend them enough.  They have great prices too!!!
