Green Camping

Camping is a way of really connecting with nature, giving you the opportunity to connect with the nature inside of you. Your camping experience might even turn you green, if you're not green already. Being green or going green is another way of saying that you help take care of the environment. You can be eco-friendly and ecologically responsible in many different ways. Love the earth and she will love you back. Green camping is on the rise. It is very important that people are more aware of the environment and are ecologically responsible. There are many ways that you can turn your camping trip green. Here are some easy ways to celebrate the earth and respect our natural environment.
  • Bring cutlery, dish towels and dining dishes rather than disposable.
  • Use biodegradable soaps and detergents. Be sure to use them at least 200 feet away from water sources. All soaps, even biodegradable ones can contaminate water sources and damage the natural ecosystem.
  • Use biodegradable, non-toxic cleaning supplies. The eco-minded among us often make their own.
  • Never bury or burn trash. Always take it with you and dispose of it properly.
  • Collect rain water. Use it to rinse dishes, as a face rinse, to wash clothes or any other way you see fit.
  • Recycle all recyclable materials.
  • When building a fire never cut down branches from a living tree. Use only fallen wood or drift wood. You can also purchase local firewood. Be sure that you buy local firewood and check the laws when bringing firewood with you. There are many laws against transporting firewood because of the threat of invasive species. It is often easiest to purchase from a local, selling firewood from their home.
  • Purchase an eco-friendly tent and other eco-friendly gear if possible.
  • Stay on designated trails. Not only does this keep you safe, but it protects native plants from you. It also protects against erosion of the soil.
  • Choose LED flashlights and lanterns.
  • If possible use propane instead of charcoal for the BBQ. Propane burns much cleaner.
  • Recycle batteries. Use rechargeable batteries when you can.
  • Use organic bug sprays and sunscreens.
If you want to tour the country without hurting the environment or just tour your neighborhood, traveling around in a green RV has never been so fashionable. The RV industry has created an entire market of products with the environment at heart. The RV's themselves have been given a green makeover with lighter-weight, more fuel-efficient vehicles built with eco-friendly materials and components designed to reduce energy consumption. There are many easy ways to turn your RV into an environment-friendly, nature loving, energy-efficient den-on-wheels. So whether you buy a RV already green or decide to paint it green yourself you have options when it comes to going green on the road.
  • Invest in a wind generator or a solar panel.
  • Replace chemical toilet with a composting model or use bacterial additives rather than toxic chemicals to cut odors in waste tanks.
  • Work with nature to reduce air conditioning and heating use. In cold weather, park in areas protected from winds. In hot weather park in the shade.

Album Review: Yoga Planet - The Gordon Brothers

Create ambiance, peace and a sea of energized tranquility with Yoga Planet.

Here we ago again, another Sequoia Records bestselling album by the pioneering duo - The Gordon Brothers. These brothers have been releasing award-winning albums for over 25 years, continuing their success with Yoga Planet. The smooth melodies of Yoga Planet are hypnotizing, creating a trance-like mood that falls somewhere between wakefulness and dreaming. This album is perfect for ... yoga, of course, but don't let the name limit air time of this musical composition. Yoga Planet is a nice collection of smooth lounge music that will add some color and ambiance to anywhere you play it.

Downtempo Electronica

Steve and David Gordon wanted to use some of their music from previous Native/Drumming World music albums and remix them into something complete new, something cool, something chill. The Gordon Brothers teamed up with three creative producers/engineers in electronica, Bobby Cochran, Alex Newman and Noah Perry, to produce this downtempo chill/lounge album.

Good-Mood Music

Yoga Planet is fun and fresh. Sophisticated and serene, this ten-track album is good-mood music for the soul. It is ideal to keep on repeat no matter the company. Some songs are a little more jazzy and upbeat, getting me snapping my fingers and getting into the groove with whoever is around me at the time.

Mellow, yet energetic, Yoga Planet is a combination of sensual electronica, electric and acoustic guitar, piano, keyboard, native flutes and multi-cultural beats. Creating a balanced state of mind, this album is graceful and healing. It creates a peaceful environment, raising the vibration of the room up a notch or two. Helping to keep a relaxed focus without falling asleep or getting so excited that you burn all your fuel too quickly, the tracks evoke an awareness within. The flow between tracks remains kinetic and connected.

Closing

Yoga Planet enlivens the soul, while creating a relaxed, calm, cool and collected atmosphere.

My Experience

I love aromatherapy products and essential oils of all varieties. Love is definitely the word here. I can not get enough. Investing in aromatherapy goodies for myself and as gifts is one of the pleasures in my life. I have not found any unique products in a while until I discovered Natural Patches of Vermont.

I had a few members of my team try these patches along side me. We were all curious - Is it really possible for an essential oil patch to cure or ease common complaints, leading one to a greater achieved degree of health and wellness?

The Verdict?

Everyone is in agreement. These patches are great. They're convenient, reasonably priced and great for traveling. They are also perfect to keep near-by in case of an aromatherapy/essential oil emergency.

Relaxing Sleep Formula

My husband, mother and I all tried the Relaxing Sleep Formula. Lavender, chamomile and jasmine dance as one in this formula that is designed to soothe nervous tension, help alleviate stress-related conditions and pave the way for a restful night's sleep.

We feel unanimously that the Relaxing Sleep Formula does indeed set out what it intends to do. I enjoyed this pleasurable experience so much that I bought a bunch of lavender ten pack tins to give away as gifts this year.

Soothing Aches and Pains Formula

My husband and my aunt gave the Soothing Aches and Pains Formula an opportunity to work its magic. Cayenne, lemon grass, ginger and rosemary work in harmony with arnica to help soothe aching joins and sore muscles. This patch has a very pleasant citrus scent.

My aunt had a terrible stomach ache while traveling. She put the patch directly on her stomach and said the pain did indeed go away. My husband put a patch on his lower back two nights in a row. He has chronic back pain. He said that although the patches did take the edge off they did not alleviate his pain completely.

Soothing Coughs and Colds Formula

Sick for over a week with Bronchitis, Soothing Coughs and Colds Formula arrived just in the nick of time. A pleasurable aromatherapy blend of eucalyptus, lemongrass, camphor, fir balsam and peppermint essential oils makes this patch perfect as a decongestant for cough and cold symptoms. I found this patch to be very soothing while sick. It works well.

Final Thoughts

Natural Patches of Vermont have created an original and convenient way to utilize the healing effects of essential oils.

A Beautiful Women's Guide To Camping

Maintaining cleanliness and appearance can be a challenge when camping out in the great outdoors but don't let that stop you from being just as gorgeous as ever. You needn't sacrifice your captivating allure. You can and should feel and look at your best for the duration of the entire camping trip. It is possible to stay clean and beautiful while roasting and toasting over the campfire. Whether it is your first time camping or you have grown up in back-country keeping yourself at your best becomes a challenge when many of the amenities that you have become accustom to are unavailable. Luckily there are many products and habits that can keep you clean, polished and a delight to the senses. Feeling comfortable and confident, you are sure to have the best time possible. So, let's get started.

Step One: The first thing you want to do is create your own unique checklist of beauty and hygiene essentials. Creating a checklist makes packing a breeze. Forgetting one important beauty essential can effect the entire trip. Use this checklist below as a guide to creating your own list.
Beauty Essentials Checklist:
  • Beauty toolbox or beauty bag
  • Skin care wipes for face (These are generally more expensive than the body wipes.)
  • Skin care wipes for body
  • Tweezers
  • Towels & washcloths (A set for each day you will be camping.)
  • Biodegradable shampoo
  • Biodegradable soap
  • Dry shampoo
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Mirror with light
  • Tissues
  • Toilet seat covers
  • Tampons
  • Portable solar shower (This is a great investment.)
  • Toilet paper
  • Q-tips
  • Mouth rinse
  • Deodorant (You might want a water proof deodorant.)
  • Breath spray
  • Water (for washing face, etc.)
  • Face spritzer (Purchase a spritzer or make your own. Water mixed with a few drops of coconut or peppermint oil in a spray bottle is quick and works very well.)
  • Eye drops
  • Insect repellent
  • Make-up (Keeping make-up to a minimal is strongly suggested. Less is more, especially while camping. You want to look as natural as possible.)
  • Lip gloss
  • Sunblock
  • Moisturizer with SPF (Tinted moisturizer works great while camping.)
  • Eye cream
  • Waterproof eyeliner
  • Waterproof mascara
  • Tea tree oil (For bites, blemishes and basic first aid.)
  • Hair bands
  • Brush or comb
  • Toothpaste
  • Tooth brush

  • Blanket to sit on
  • Bobby pins (Put hair in bobby pins at night while you sleep. In the morning you will have beautiful, wavy hair.)

  • Suntan oil (Be careful in the sun. A little is very healthy. Too much can hurt you.)
  • Hairspray, mouse or gel
  • Salt Water in Spray bottle (for wavy, beach hair) Mix water with a little bit of salt into an empty, clean spray bottle. Spray in dry hair and scrunch with hands. No hairspray is necessary. The saltwater holds the look in place.)
Step Two: Choose your wardrobe and accessories carefully. This is a big key to keeping you feeling and looking your best. You want to layer your clothing. This is both fashionable and efficient when dealing with changing climates. Make choices that are comfortable, practical and of course very cute and stylish.
Clothing checklist:
  • Boots (for the mud, long hikes, etc.)
  • Spare socks & underwear
  • Hat(s) for the sun
  • Long pants
  • Short pants
  • Warm clothing
  • Nighttime clothing for both evenings and sleeping
  • Dress Scarves to put over hair (These come in a variety of colors and designs.)
  • Rain gear

  • Beach bag
  • Beach towel
  • Extra shoes (at least 2 pairs)
Step Three: Bring a book or something to do while camping. Bring a hammock. When you are relaxed or focused you look very beautiful. You could take a camera and take lots of pictures of the trees, bees, flowers and anything else that captures your attention or your heart. Create a photo journal of the entire trip. After all you will look amazing so why not. Try doing some night photography. This can be a lot of fun. Having fun will really allow your beauty to light-up even the darkest of corners.

Closing Notes: Keep your checklist and add to it during your trip. You could think of something that you wish you would have brought. There is always next time. Chances are that you will camp again. Most importantly remember that camping should be fun so don't stress if you break a nail or run out of mascara. True beauty comes from within. If your want your beauty to radiate and attract find something to be joyful about and smile, smile, smile.

Top Ten Tips For Camping While Pregnant

It is possible for you to be pregnant and still participate in many of the outdoor activities that you love. Camping is a great opportunity for you to get that much-needed exercise and relaxation that is required during pregnancy. As your pregnancy progresses, you should avoid any activity that puts you at risk for falling or increases the chance of trauma to your abdomen. As long as you stay safe and stay comfortable there is no reason why you cannot enjoy a camping trip. It just takes a little extra planning and preparation. Be sure to consult with your doctor before planning your trip. Your doctor will help you discern the amount of adventure your spirit will be safe to engage in. So get out your camping checklist and your camping preparation to-do list and be prepared to add some additions to both lists.

Tip #1: Be absolutely certain to visit a doctor before-hand.

Schedule an appointment with your doctor. Take along a list of activities you plan to do. Get a physical to ensure that you are in good health and so is your unborn baby. Ask if there are any other safety tips that the doctor can recommend.

Tip #2: Determine the closest medical facility to your camp.

Locate the nearest medical facility. Take a trip to the facility and determine a plan in case you do have an emergency.

Tip #3: Camp as close to the restrooms as possible.

It is a good idea to set up camp as close to the restrooms as possible. Taking frequent trips to empty your bladder is actually a common early sign of pregnancy, starting about six weeks into your first trimester. During pregnancy hormonal changes cause blood to flow more quickly through your kidneys, filling your bladder more often. A lot of extra fluid getting processed through the kidneys and pressure on your bladder from the growing fetus also contributes to urinary frequency. Morning sickness could also send you headed quickly toward the restrooms. Be sure to pack a robe and slippers or slips-ons for nighttime emergencies.

Tip #4: Bring an air mattress and lots of pillows.

Sleeping can be very difficult while pregnant no matter where you are. Be sure to invest in a nice air mattress. Bring body pillows and lots of other comfortable pillows. Bring sheets, extra blankets and a comforter. When pregnant avoid sleeping on your back. You want your sleeping experience to be as close to home as possible. If possible keep your normal sleeping schedule.

Tip #5: Stay cool mama.

Overheating is very dangerous for both mother and baby. Dealing with the heat can be one of the reasons that camping can get a little too uncomfortable for a pregnant woman. Stay cool by being prepared. Always bring ice. You can put it in your water, on your body or just eat it to cool down. It also helps to make ice bags wrapped in a piece of cotton. Put this on your head in case of a headache or to keep your body temperature down. Bring extra wash cloths or a small towel to get wet and drape over your neck if it gets too hot. Drink lots of ice water. Bring a battery operated hand-held fan. Fill a spray bottle with water or a mixture of two parts rosewater and one part plain water. Keep it in the cooler or next to an ice pack to keep in cold. Spray your face regularly to refresh and cool you down during the day and night.

Tip #6: Take it easy.

During pregnancy a woman becomes exhausted easily. Take lots of breaks. Do not hike more than one mile away from your car or camp. Be sure not to over exert yourself in any activity. You might need to take frequent naps. Relax and unwind. Bring a good book and some activities you can do while sitting at camp; such as crocheting, drawing or knitting.

Tip #7: Do not carry anything heavy.

Give gear to someone else to carry. If you have to strain at all it is too heavy. You need to be very careful about lifting too much weight, especially as pregnancy progresses. During pregnancy your joints become less stable and ligaments become looser. There is also risk of becoming dizzy or losing your balance easier, making the chances of a fall increase.

Tip #8: Bring supportive, comfortable shoes.

It is likely that you will be on your feet at some time while camping. Invest in a good, comfortable pair of shoes. Be sure to try them out before you leave to be sure that they keep you and your feet feeling like happy campers.

Tip #9: Stay hydrated.

Be sure to bring plenty of bottled water with you. Drink it through-out the day and often, especially while engaging in activity and during extreme heat. Dehydration is very dangerous for a fetus. Drink water anytime you feel dizzy, flushed or overheated.

Tip #10: Enjoy yourself.

Have fun! When you are happy and having fun so is baby. Go sight-seeing. Take up photography and take lots and lots of pictures. Enjoy writing in a journal or planning a scrapbook of your entire trip. Many women find that pregnancy makes them feel more creative, even poetic. Learn to make a baby blanket, booties or a hat while connecting your baby to nature in utero. Fishing can be very relaxing and fun too, especially if someone will cook and clean the fish for you. Short walks are a great way to get that much-needed exercise during pregnancy. Swimming is also an excellent way to get exercise and also help beat the heat. Remember to wear sunblock. Be sure to check with your doctor first before-hand to get the clear on your camping activities.

Closing Notes:

CONGRATULATIONS MOTHER-TO-BE! Wishing you and baby a life of laughter, love and miracles!

RV Travel With Children

RV travel and camping is a great way to pass along your love of the outdoors and the joys of travel to your children or grandchildren. RV travel can be a very rewarding experience for the entire family. Whether you have escaped the rat race and are a full-time RV nomad or just taking a RV camping vacation, RV travel and camping strengthens family relationships. The confinement of the RV gives the opportunity to spend quality time together as a family and really get to know one another. RV travel is a terrific way for parents or grandparents to develop strong bonds with the children. The freedom of a long road trip can be a very exciting and fun way of practicing decision-making as a team. So many sights to see and so many places to experience, RV travels are full of enlightenment and growth for all ages. Long road trips can be, at times, difficult for children but with a little planning you will feel rest-assured and enthusiastic about hitting the road with the young ones. Here are some tips to help you bring out the best in your RV experience.
  • Involve the children in the planning procedure.
Before you even hit the road get the children involved. Involving the children is great way to help them develop important planning skills, problem solving skills and organization skills. Children almost always love when you ask them for their opinion and take great pride in giving their thoughts and ideas. This helps build a very strong unshakable foundation of confidence within them. The planning procedure shapes enthusiasm, excitement, and anticipation for RV travel and camping. Give the children choices and really listen to what they want and have to say. Work as a team. Take a vote when conflicting desires arise. Post a map and allow the children to draw a route of the entire trip. This is a great way to teach children map reading and direction skills. Supply each child with their own personal map and compass. Children love to learn and this will keep them involved and active the entire trip.
  • Expect good behavior
Make and post a list of rules. Be sure to enforce it. It never hurts to have a little bit of leverage. Reward children with the activities, toys, games, snacks, etc. that they love and punish them by taking something away. You can also use campground activities as rewards for good behavior. Campgrounds provide a fun environment for children. Encourage team work by rewarding the entire family with an activity such as horseback riding, canoeing etc. Rewarding everyone for doing such a great job is very encouraging. Team work builds strong communication skills and teaches everyone to value and appreciate each other. Remember to follow the rules yourself. Children learn more by example than anything. Teach children to be responsible for themselves, respectful to themselves and to others.
  • Understand child passenger safety.
Be aware of child passenger laws and follow them to a tee. There are differences in child passenger laws from state to state. Child passenger restraint requirements vary based on age, weight and height. No matter what state you are in be sure that children stay seated and belted while the RV is in motion. Stop the RV often and take frequent breaks to give everyone a chance to stretch and go to the restroom.
  • Teach children to pay it forward.
Encourage random acts of kindness toward each other. Acts of kindness are small, simple, selfless acts done for others without expecting anything in return. Teach the children to look around and see if anything needs done at camp, in the RV or if anyone needs anything. Help mold acts of kindness and get them into the habit of doing one nice thing for someone everyday. Take turns talking about how doing nice things makes everyone feel about themselves.
  • Get as crafty as a fox.
Busy minds need activities to participate in. Keep children entertained and focused by giving them special crafts to work on. There are lots of crafts that you can do while traveling. Many children will look forward to crafting. Some fun crafting include making jewelry, knitting, origami, aluminum foil art, paper dolls, sticker collages, sock puppets, etc. Choose crafts that are not very messy or require any scissors or sharp, dangerous objects. Prepare craft kits before-hand if scissors are necessary or pack child safety scissors to avoid any preventable accidents or injuries.
  • Play games.
Keep children entertained, busy and happy for hours with fun games that they can play on the road. Bring a deck of cards and a book of card games. Road trips are a perfect opportunity to learn a new card game along with playing some all time favorites. Magnetic board games, especially the car version games are nice because they are small, compact and easy to play even on bumpy roads. Bingo is lots of fun to play in the RV. Plenty of places online offer free printable Bingo games. There are lots of road games that have no requirements other than participation and everyone can play together, even the driver. Some fun road games include I spy, the license plate game, the alphabet game, license plate poker, twenty questions, scavenger hunt and a is for armadillo. For extra fun, purchase small toys, crafts, special snacks, etc as prizes.
  • Bring audio books
Audio books are a great way to keep children, and adults, entertained. While it is tempting to keep children quiet and behaved with DVDs, storytelling is a healthy way to encourage creativity, to teach listening skills, help build vocabulary and improve overall language skills. Audio books are also lots of fun.
Closing Notes: Create memories. Enjoy life. Have fun and be happy!

Book Review: You Can Create An Exceptional Life

A refection of the depth that living by simple principles can create, I found this book soul-soothing.

"The thoughts we think and the words we speak create our experiences." - Louis Hay

You Can Create An Exceptional Life, written by two woman who are quite exceptional themselves - Louis Hay and Cheryl Richardson, is a book that is sure to inspire you into taking the appropriate action toward creating a happy and fulfilling life. I have personally been transformed by the teachings of Louis Hay, years ago, when I really needed to learn how loving myself actually benefited the people I care most about. Playing the role of a mentor, spiritual counselor and metaphysical teacher, Louis continues to inspire and enlighten me, helping me to unlock my fullest, most vibrant potential. She has sold over 50 million books worldwide and touched the lives and hearts of millions of people, continuing her work in her eighty-fifth year of life. Inspired by Louis Hay herself, Cheryl Richardson is a life coach and the New York Times bestselling author of several books, including Take Time for Your Life, Life Makeovers and Stand Up for Your Life.

When I learned that Louis Hay was going to write a book with Cheryl Richardson I was curious as to what these two woman would create together. Cheryl's radio program, Coach on Call, has been one of my favorite programs on Hay House Radio. If anyone has a lot of great advice to give it is Cheryl Richardson. So here are two well-known and well-respected self-help leaders, teaming up to bring to the readers something completely new and different.

Released in September of 2011 from Hay House, this is the first book that Cheryl Richardson and Louis Hay have written together. Perhaps this partnership will continue. These woman have so many life experiences to share with us.

If you are new to Louis Hay, You Can Create An Exceptional Life, will introduce you to her ideas. If you are familiar with Louis Hay, this book will bring you closer to Louis, keeping you inspired by her example and strength. The chemistry between Cheryl and Louis is evident. This special connection that the two of them share comes across in the book, as they share important life lessons and experiences with one another and with the reader, while traveling the United States and meeting to talk about the creation of You Can Create An Exceptional Life.

A small, hardcover of 164 pages, You Can Create An Exceptional Life is an easy read. The information is straightforward, easy to understand and to absorb. I would have loved to see this book much longer, although being a smaller book, it can be read in a day or two. Containing ways to create ... as the titles suggests ... an exceptional life, you are sure to gain a wealth of soul-soothing wisdom from woman who have lived the teachings themselves. Topics include starting off your morning right, aging gracefully, manifesting prosperity and abundance, facing death and creating fulfilling, harmonious relationships with everyone in your life.

Simply reading this book makes me feel more positive and happy, empowered and open to enjoying life fully. It feels like I am one of the girls, sharing intimate moments with Cheryl and Louis. The book is written from the perspective of Cheryl, quoting Louis throughout it, and sharing in her thoughts about the conversations that the two of them share. I really enjoyed the way that Cheryl organized the book, highlighting life coaching methods along the way. For myself, the most touching parts of this book are when Louis talks about her experiences on the Hay Ride, giving the reader a deeper look into this important time of her life. I love the idea of being the creator of my own reality and although the ideas presented in this small book appear simple, the results can change your life in a big way.
