Review: A Thousand Suns, The GuruGanesha Band

The music of the GuruGanesha Band is drawn from many sources—raga, gospel, rock, folk, even a touch of the blues. In performance, these myriad musical tributaries merge in a glistening, flowing river of sound. Much of their material is drawn from GuruGanesha’s 2011 album Kundalini Surjhee, but the band has also begun to incorporate some brand new compositions into its live performances. Their creativity seems as boundless as their onstage Kundalini energy.

The group is led by world devotional music pioneer GuruGanesha Singh, renowned for his work with singers Snatam Kaur, Tina Malia and Nirinjan Kaur; widely respected as the founder of Spirit Voyage records. An avuncular figure in turban, kurta and long white beard, GuruGanesha handles his guitars with easygoing mastery, bouncing trippy, inventive, melodic leads off the ceiling and casting polyrhythmic glitter all over the grooves. Grounding the GuruGanesha Band’s joyous earth beat are tabla ace Daniel Paul, a seasoned world percussion dynamo and first-rate harmony vocalist, and bassist Gurusangat Singh, a soulful jazzman with an exceptionally supple feel and cosmic connection to the supreme groove. Spicing the beat like a expert fusion chef is rhythm guitarist/backing vocalist Sat Kartar Singh, old friend, highly accomplished yogi and dapper counterpart to GuruGanesha. The deeply sympathetic way in which Sat Kartar blends his voice and guitar with those of GuruGanesha bespeaks an understatedly high level of musicianship and a lifelong brotherhood.  The GuruGanesha Bands’s rainbow tapestry of sonic hues is magnificently enriched by multi-instrumentalist Hans Christian, who performs on cello, sarangi, sitara and nyckelharpa (Swedish keyed fiddle). Combining ancient instruments with modern electronics, he casts a potent spell with looped waves of shimmering beauty that echo into infinity. And then there’s Michelle Hurtado, the GuruGanesha Band’s divinely enchanting singer. Her unforgettable performances combine heartrending beauty, vocal virtuosity and a sense of total surrender to Spirit. Seated at a harmonium, dressed in flowing garments and gossamer shawl, she commands center stage like a present-day incarnation of Saraswati, goddess of music, art and wisdom.

A Thousand Suns puts my heart into a peaceful state ... connecting to the love of the worldVery spiritual ... I would love to see them live.  For more information, please visit Spirit Voyage.

Review: Celestial Zen, David & Steve Gordon

Supe-up your space ship. We are going into space ...

Celestial Zen, David & Steve Gordon

There are a few things in life I can count on. The first, my husband will always be by my side. The second, all great challenges bring great rewards and third, David & Steve Gordon always make great music. When I see their names, I know the album will be a good one.

Proving my point, Celestial Zen (Sequoia Records 2012) will have you packing your meditation space bags, boarding the astral plane of fifth-dimension-existence. Prepare yourself for intergalactic communications with angels, entities, spirits and maybe even an alien or two. You will reach further dimensions of your mind, places that you did not even knew existed. So get ready for a spaced-out trip into the heavens. Here comes Celestial Zen ...

Esoteric Stars Of The Soul

Modular sequencers, bass, acoustic and electric guitars and analog synthesizers dance together in harmonic delight, sparking to life the esoteric stars of the soul. I get lost within myself, a place of serenity, quiet and innate knowing that life is but a dream ... a good dream.

Originally recorded all the way back in 1984 under the name /Celestial Suite,/ this is the first time that it has been available on CD. Super-consciousness never felt so natural ...

Take a musical journey through inner and outer space. Experience a joyful shower of bright-white, gold, silver and rainbow colored stars, while riding waves of relaxation and blissfulness.

Review: Deep Within a Faerie Forest, Gary Stadler

Another lovely addition to Gary Stadler's fairy albums, Deep Within a Faerie Forest is extremely soulful and spiritual.  Stadler has teamed up with the enthralling and mysterious female vocalist, Wendy Rule to create a unique and haunting invocation to the beloved fae within the forest.

This music beckons ... invokes, invites, casts and enlivens.  The songs are mystical, magical and dreamy ... unleashing a side of yourself you may not even know existed.

These lovely Celtic-inspired tracts will send you straight into the woods ... searching your heart for something that you already knows exists ... nudging you to "believe".

Wendy Rule's voice along with Gary Stadler's bass and keyboard, and special guest appearances by harpist Lisa Lynne and percussionist Joshua Levin are amazing.  I would love to see another album by these four.

This gorgeous and magical album sends me into a mystical and misty world ... where fairies dance and vivid colors and intoxicating scents of the forest engulf me. Highly Recommended!!!

Review: Fairy Heart Magic, Gary Stadler

An influential musician in the genre of contemporary Celtic music, Gary Stadler has created a portal to the world of the Fae with his series of Fairy Songs.  A pianist and composer, Gary Stadler began his Fairy music series as simple piano compositions created as lullabies for his beautiful wife. Truly enchanting, the music opens fairy doors and invites them to come in and play with you ... whether you are a believer or not.  Expect magic and mystery ... and of course a little mischief.

Fairy Heart Magic is the fourth CD of six fairy albums to date by Stadler.  A tapestry of pleasantries of every color, the emotive music is much like a film score and could easily bring a lot of color to a motion picture about the fairy folk.  Joined by the sweet soprano of Stephannie and the elegant harp of Lisa Lynne, Stadlers' vision is almost that of a creation while under the influence of a perfect possession of the fairy.  Stephannie's vocals at times have an Enya sound, although this is not always the case.  She sings in an unfamiliar language, the foreign tongue is that of the fairies as well as in English.  This fairy language came to her in a dream.  Celtic harp, gorgeous, celestial vocals, delightful piano and lots of heartfelt emotion create a truly unique musical spell that unlocks the doors within our hearts to the beautiful world of magic.

Conjuring up colorful and delightful, ethereal, mythical being of folklore and romance with magical powers that they share with me, Fairy Heart Magic is an invitation to the fairies.  At times they teach me to use my own powers, while some times they teach me the herbs ... always benevolent, even in their mischievousness.

Comforting, joyful and lovely ... a true to heart invocation of the fairies and a gift to us all.  This album gives me good dreams.  Try it yourself.  Play it just before bed and allow it to soothe you to sleep.  Be sure to keep a pen and paper near by to write down your dreams when you awake.

This is a great album for the little ones too  ... both the young at heart and the children.  If you are having a hard time putting them asleep, try Fairy Heart Magic.  You will taste the magic, as they are bound ... spellbound that is ... to fall under.

The CD comes with a fourteen-page booklet with the lyrics (some in an ancient fairy language) and beautiful fairy artwork.  The booklet is exploding with color, life and pixie dust, put together by the lovely artist Katlyn Breene.  The lyrics are beautifully framed and the art of Katlyn Breene is stunning, creating an even richer and deeper sense of the fairy realm.

Brilliant ... a dreamy, captivating and romantic masterpiece!!!  For more information, or to order please visit Sequoia Records.

Misty Forest Morning Review

This album is a pure delight.  Misty Forest Morning is a gorgeous blend of instrumentals and nature sounds.  Released in 1982 from Sequoia Recording, Misty Forest Morning is the original nature music classic that helped to pioneer the entire New Age Music movement.

The Gordon brothers have captured the heart and soul of the forest in this album.  It is one of my favorites from the label ... soulful, real and truly magical.  Have you ever taken a walk through the wood and suddenly things feel different somehow ... quieter, mystical ... and you know something is about to happen or is happening already?  Misty Forest Morning invokes this feeling within me.  Captivating ... a must-have!!!
